When you think of NASA, your first thought is probably astronauts, if going to space doesn't sound appealing to you, you may find some other rewarding career with NASA.
Just a few of the professionals that NASA employs are as follows: Medical doctors, nurses, mental health care professionals, researchers, engineers, microbiologists and among others.
Just recently, NASA has announced a job vacancy for a new planetary protection officer. Some people laughed at the announcement because it sounds like a science-fiction fantasies and battle with aliens. The salary is amounting to $124,000 - $187,000 per year. Nasa explained that the position is focused on preventing astronauts from bringing biological contaminants from space back to earth.
The space agency actually received an application from New Jersey, who expressed his interest for the said position. The job-seeker is Jack Davis, a 9-year old boy who took the job vacancy seriously.
He wrote:
“Dear NASA,
My name is Jack Davis and I would like to apply for the planetary protection officer job. I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job. One of the reasons is my sister says I’m an alien. Also, I have seen almost all of the space and alien movies I can see.I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of Shield and hope to see the movie Men In Black.I am great at video games. I am young so I can learn to think like an alien.”
Sincerely,
Jack Davis

Fourth Grade”
The director of the planetary science division, Dr. James L. Greene sent him an uplifting response, telling Jack that he was glad to hear that he was “The guardian of the galaxy” and for his interest joining NASA.
Director Greene wrote back,
“Dear Jack,
"I hear you are a 'Guardian of the Galaxy' and that you're interested in being a NASA Planetary Protection Officer, That's great!"
Our planetary officer position is really cool and is very important work. It's about protecting Earth from tiny microbes when we bring back samples from the Moon, asteroids, and Mars. It's also about protecting other planets and moons from our germs as we responsibly explore the Solar System”
“We are always looking for bright future scientists and engineers to help us, so I hope you will study hard and do well in school. We hope to see you here at NASA one of these days!”
Sincerely,
Dr. James L. Greene
Director, Planetary Science Division”
Not only a letter, but Jack also received a phone call from the NASA headquarters in Washington to congratulate him on his interest in the position.
Dr. Greene stated:
"At NASA, we love to teach kids about space and inspire them to be the next generation of explorers,"
"Think of it as a gravity assist — a boost that may positively and forever change a person's course in life, and our footprint in the universe."
