Teacher's’ primary role is to teach academic subjects to their students but aside from that teacher should also teach their students to behave properly and to judge what is right and wrong because teachers are also considered as second parents to their pupils.
So, what will happen if the teacher is the one who is not behaving properly? Who will teach him then?
Pete Garcia Hernandez, 49 years old, an elementary school substitute teacher was arrested after he was accused of “ inappropriate sexual contact” with three female students.
The elementary school substitute teacher was charged with three counts of indecency with a child (younger than 17 years old) after several parents protested outside the school in November that he had kissed and touched girls in the first-grade class. Parents were all worried for the safety of their children in school.
Veronica Lopez said (whose child goes to the school) ."My daughter being a first grader and she had a substitute around the same time, it was scary for me. I thought it was in my daughter's classroom," "He needs to rot in jail. These girls are barely starting life and now they have to carry this traumatized (experience) through their whole life."
"This never happens at this school. We got scared," another parent said.
Based on the report, the incident happened at Looscan Elementary School while he was assigned to the class from October 24 to November 4. The three female pupils told the authorities that Hernandez kissed them on the mouth, touched their chest and requested them to sit on his lap.
Initially, Hernandez rebutted all the accusation but later revealed in court documents that the kissing was just an accident that occurred when he was speaking too close with them and his tongue accidentally went in their mouth.
He also admitted to the investigator that he had lascivious thoughts while the students were sitting on his lap during the lesson about “force of motion”.
The school district stated in an interview obtained by news station KTRK “[Houston Independent School District] takes situations such as this very seriously, as the safety of students is always the district’s top priority,”
Hernandez has now been discharged by the district and the parents are now relieved.
"We're surprised we were all surprised by what happened. I hope the school (is) safe now," said Jackie Ruiz, the grandparent of a child at the school.
