A Woman Who Sweats Blood, Puzzled Italian Doctors

A rare health condition of a 21-year-old unnamed woman puzzled Italian doctors after being admitted to the hospital and didn’t find any signs of skin lesions, according to the Canadian Medical Journal.

The unnamed woman was diagnosed with a very rare condition which affects just one in a million people. Her condition causes her to sweat blood from her face and the palms of her hands.

The woman said that it happens while she was sleeping or doing physical activities. What’s more unusual symptom is during her emotional stress which could last   from one and five minutes long.

Due to her bizarre health condition for three years, she isolated herself from people because of embarrassment, and now she’s suffering from depressive and panic disorders.

Doctors confirmed that the unnamed woman’s blood count and blood-clotting were functions normally after several test, they also diagnosed her with hematidrosis.

Hematidrosis, also called blood sweat is a very rare condition in which a human sweat blood in which capillary blood vessels that feed the sweat glands rupture, causing them to exude blood, occurring under conditions of extreme physical or emotional stress.

Since it is an extremely rare condition which affects one in 10 million people, doctors treated her some medication with a beta-blocker called propranolol. Although it reduces her symptoms, the medication couldn’t completely stop them.

The Canadian medical historian and hematologist, Jacalyn Duffin commented that she was doubtful at first over the claims and feared that Italian doctors has been deceived.But, after a thorough study of the medical literature she concurred that the woman’s condition is rare and it is really real.
