A 3-year old toddler was rushed to the hospital in England when a “simple” cough turned out to be a serious and life threatening disease.
According to the father (Owen Humphreys) and his son (Reuben) were enjoying their vacation with their family when all of a sudden his simple cough went from bad to worse as he began to lose his voice in the car journey on the way back.
So they immediately took the boy to the hospital as they knew for sure that something was wrong.
They couldn’t believe that the active little kid ended up staying at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary intensive care unit due to “Croup”
Croup is also known as laryngotracheobronchitis, is a type of respiratory infection that is usually caused by a virus. The infection leads to swelling inside the trachea, which interferes with normal breathing and produces the classic symptoms of “barking” cough, stridor and hoarse voice. Fever and runny nose may also be present. These symptoms may be mild, moderate or severe.
The father wants to share their experience to warn other parents about the danger of croup and remind them not to ignore the so-called ‘simple cough’
He said:
“I was amazed by how quick it took hold. 24 hours previous he was playing in the Lake District on a short family break."
“I had heard of croup but didn't really know what it was and what to look out for:
Good thing, Reuben’s condition has already got better.
Owen told Metro.co.uk:
"He's doing very well now. He is still in intensive care and we are hoping that he will be out tomorrow"
