Chinita Princess Kim Chiu revealed that her grandmother was a ghost bride. She shares her grandmother’s story during the media launch of her upcoming movie “The Ghost Bride”

A ghost marriage is a Chinese tradition in which one or both parties are deceased. It is usually set up by the family of the deceased and performed for a number of reasons, including the marriage of an engaged couple before one member’s death, to integrate an unmarried daughter into a patrilineage, to ensure the family line is continued or to maintain that no younger brother is married before an elder brother.

Kim Chiu narrated:
She said "Noong ginagawa ko po itong movie, 'yung lola ko, sabi niya sa akin 'Ghost Bride' ba yan?' Kasi alam mo ba, sabi niya sa akin, na 'yung pinsan niya daw ay isang ghost bride. So kamag-anak namin ay ghost bride,"
"Tapos tinanong ko 'yung lola ko, kung bakit di siya naging ghost bride. Sabi niya, 'gusto kong magka-anak.' Kasi once na pasukin mo ang pagiging ghost bride, parang [inialay] mo na 'yung sarili mo sa pamilya nung patay at saka sa pamilya," She added.
According to Kim part of the ghost bride responsibility is to take care of her in-laws.
"So every Monday and Friday, every weekend dadasalan mo 'yung patay. Tapos everyday pupuntahan mo ang picture niya, i-insesohan mo. So parang lahat ng family event ay nandoon ka, so parang asawa mo talaga siya. So nagulat din ako noong sinabi 'yon ng lola ko,"

Kim clarified that her ghost bride grandmother was already dead.
"Patay na po siya, pero mayaman po sila. Hanggang ngayon, napamanahan niya 'yung mga kapatid niya, mga apo-apuhan niya. Mayroon po silang mga building, may mga negosyo. Kasi in exchange of your time and your life is money po talaga. So 'yun po ang ginagawa noong araw. Tapos noong tinanong ko kung ilang taon na 'yung malayong pinsan ng lola ko na 'yon, kasi 'yung lola ko ay 89 na siya, siguro magwa-100 na siya kung buhay po siya," She said.
In the movie “The Ghost Bride”, Kim Chiu will play the role of a young woman who accepted an offer to be a ghost bride in order to help her poor family. It is another Chito S. Roño film, who was the director of the successful movie Feng Shui and Feng Shui 2.

The movie also stars Alice Dixon, Matteo Guidicelli, Ina Raymundo,Robert Seña, Mon Confiado, Christian Bables, Beverly Salviejo, Isay Alvarez, Cacai Bautista, Nanding Josef, Victor Silayan and Jerome Ponce.
