The 100-Year Old Tattoo Artist, Apo Whang Od Finally Met Her Celebrity Crush Coco Martin

Apo Whang Od Oggay, the last mambabatok (traditional Kalinga tattooist) revealed in an interview with NY times that she has been waiting for a visit from Coco Martin, and she’s just content herself with a life-size cardboard cutout of the actor.

The long wait was over since the 100 year-old tattoo artist has arrived at the Villamor Airbase via helicopter to meet her ultimate celebrity crush Coco Martin.

She was all smiles as her wish came true and finally met the “FPJ Ang Probinsyano” star Coco Martin.

Apo Whang-od is from the Butbut people in Buscalan Kalinga and the oldest tattoo artist in the Philippines, She has been doing her tattoo work for more than 80 years. The ancient techniques of batok that dates back thousands of years before her time is quite painful compared to other conventional techniques. Even at her old age and the presence of successors, she still applies tattoos to tourists. Some of her notable customers include Rhian Ramos, Drew Arellano, Liza Diño and Aiza Seguerra. She became popular as she is the last “mambabatok” and many netizens were lobbying her to be the one of the National Artist of the Philippines.
