Another deadly disease has been spreading in Central Africa, and the scientist from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are now in Congo to stop the virus before it spreads across the globe.
Monkeypox which is believed that has been eradicated in 1977 is an infectious disease caused by monkeypox virus. It is similar to smallpox, symptoms begin with fever, headache, muscle pains, swollen lymph nodes, and feeling tired. It will then followed by rashes that forms blisters and scabs over. It may be spread from handling bush meat, an animal bite or scratch, body fluids, contaminated objects or close contact with an infected person.
This disease can cause fatal illness in humans and can be transmitted to people from wild animals which describes by the World Health Organization. It is also believed that it is more dangerous when it infects infants and children.
The monkeypox outbreak started in January in the Congo Republic with a hunter from Manfouete, at least 88 suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported throughout the country, and six people have died.
Since most the cases were found in the village in Manfoute, scientists had to take a six-hour boat trip from the nearest airport just to reach the remote village with no running water and electricity, which makes it a perfect breeding ground of the disease.
At present, there is still no cure or vaccine for the infection, so the scientist had to examine any sources of the outbreak, and they are also hoping to find a way to prevent its spread to other areas and countries.
